PENNSYLVANIA RIFLE. Cal. 45. Fit with an unmarked bbl that has been slightly shortened to 41 1/4" with a dovetailed brass blade front sight and small square notch rear sight. The lock has remnants of British proofs and a simple gooseneck cock. It is all mounted on a relief carved and incised maple stock that has sprays of relief and incised scrolls emanating from the cheek rest and bbl tang, as well as, an incised border line that chases that bbl pins and toe line. The 4-piece brass patchbox has simple line and scroll engraving with a shaped floral pattern and zig zag borders on the cover. The brass buttplate has a faceted upper tang with push button release on the top flat. A 2 3/16" brass toeline plate is engraved with a zig zag border and starburst accents around the screws. Brass faceted trigger guard has a finger spur and border line engraving on the bow. 3 line bordered ferrules hold the brass tipped ramrod in place. CONDITION: Overall fair. The metal surfaces have been cleaned with a mottled patina. Stock has been refinished with care taken in conserving the carvings and some wood loss at the bbl tang and a few spots along the bbl channel. (01-28829/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $3,500-4,500.
